VOTING is under way to crown the Canal Dog of the Year.

The competition, held to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, was open to dog owners from across the UK who have been taking photographs of their four-legged friends along the canal.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes have been entered from Corgis and Shih Tzus to Weimaraners and Goldendoodles.

The contest is organised by Brecon Beacons National Park Authority with the support of the Canal and River Trust.

The top prize is a weekend break in a dog-friendly Brecon Beacons Holiday Cottage.

Carol Williams, the authority’s tourism growth officer said: “We’ve had 167 entries from all around the UK, and it’s great to know that so many people paid a visit to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal on its anniversary year.”

To vote for your favourite dog from the 13 finalists visit Brecon Beacons National Park Authority’s facebook page.

I'll vote for the one which hasn't poo'ed on the towpath!

Are you serious? 167 entries in a country of over six million? Hardly news.
