Usk exhibition will show rugby greats captured on canvas
11:40am Thursday 31st January 2013 in News
AN ART exhibition, celebrating Welsh rugby will be launched by British Lions and Wales legend Scott Quinnell in Usk next month.
The former player will open the preview viewing of the Icons exhibition, at 7pm on February 28, which celebrates stars of the Welsh game, by Abergavenny artist Elin Sian Blake.
Guests expected to attend the event include former Lions Bryn Meredith and Gerald Davies and WRU artist in residence, Owen Sheers, from Abergavenny.
Ms Blake, a graduate of the University of Glamorgan, is a full-time artist who has exhibited paintings at London’s Mall Galleries and at Gallery in the Square.
Her work is held in collections across Europe, Australia, the United States and the UK.
Ms Blake has separated the Welsh rugby icons she has painted based on the generation they played in.
This means the legends of the 70s are depicted in nostalgic sepia-toned pen and ink washes, with more recent giants of the game in full colour oils.
The exhibition, held in aid of Usk RFC Juniors, will be the first of the year at The Gallery in the Square in Usk and marks the 41st year of the gallery.
It runs between March 1 and April 20.
