A NEWPORT opera singer will be putting his talents to the test at the national final of Tesco Distribution's Got Talent in aid of charity.

Robert Urban-Nagy, 40, who has worked at Tesco Magor Distribution Centre for nine months, will join 19 other acts from across the country to battle it out for a £1,000 prize.

The Hungarian opera singer, who has done musical tours of Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, came to the UK to learn English.

He has already beaten off competition from other aspiring stars to reach this stage with his performance of popular opera classics including 'Ave Maria' and 'Time to Say Goodbye'.

He can also accompany himself on the organ or piano while he performs. Mr Urban-Nagy said: "I learned church music and worked as a cantor before I learnt to sing opera. I look forward to singing in the final and hope that I can make my Distribution Centre at Magor proud.

"My grandmother died of cancer and I owe becoming a singer to her. I loved her so much and she is the main reason that I want to raise as much money for this excellent charity."

The competition, which is open to Tesco Distribution staff and their family and friends, aims to raise £60,000 for Cancer Research UK, Tesco Charity of the Year. Staff, family and friends are able to play a role in deciding who is crowned the winner using a text to vote system in the run up, and on the night, which includes a £1 donation to Cancer Research UK.

The gala fundraising event on February 2 at Daventry Court Hotel, Northamptonshire.

Why do all these numpties with their pics hide their double chins? If you aren't leaning on something the pic looks even dafter. Or does someone glue their index fingers to their chins?
