GWENT‘S county poppy appeal co-ordinator will take on this year’s London Marathon along with his wife in aid of the Royal British Legion.
Mike and Angela Jones, of Pontypool, will aim to complete the 26.2mile challenge on April 21.
For Mr Jones, who turns 57 the day before the race, it is his second time running in the event but for Mrs Jones, 38, it is her first experience of running a marathon.
Mr Jones served for seven years with the Royal Engineers followed by a 27-year career with Gwent police before retiring in 2005.
He now works part-time for Gwent Police and is a member of Marshfield and district branch of the Royal British Legion.
His wife Angela is a serving police officer with 18 year’s service. She is now works as a temporary sergeant based at Bettws.
The couple, who have an 11-year-old son Morgan, both secured a golden bond place to run the course in aid of the charity which requires them to each raise a minimum of £1800.
Mr Jones said: "Our goal is to exceed this minimum requirement for the cause we both support."
