Newport pair to face trial over robbery and wounding at doctor's home

TWO people will stand trial next month charged with robbery and wounding with intent during a raid on a doctor's home.

Edward Donovan, 51, of Windmill Square, Commercial Road, Newport, and Rhiannon Gibbons, 27, of Newport Hotel, Chepstow Road, Newport, both appeared via video link at Cardiff Crown Court where they each pleaded not guilty to two counts of robbery.

It is alleged Donovan and Gibbons both stole a quantity of cash in sterling, a BMW motor car, a Nokia mobile phone, a quantity of cash in rupees, an ornamental eagle and jewellery from Dr Prana Das and Dr Nishebita Das on September 9 last year in Catsash, Newport.

Both defendants also pleaded not guilty to wounding Dr Prana Das with intent, to unlawfully wounding Dr Das and to assaulting Dr Nishebita Das occasioning her actual bodily harm.

The defendants were both remanded in custody and are due to stand trial on March 11.
