HERITAGE: Make your mark on world heritage at Blaenavon Big Pit
BLAENAVON residents are being asked to make their own mark on world heritage.
It’s an opportunity for people of all ages to comment on and contribute their own ideas to designs for a new series of treasure trails being planned for the World Heritage Site.
Children are encouraged to attend and there will be drawing activitiesk.
Interpretation Officer with the Forgotten Landscapes scheme Gareth Kiddie, who is organising the project explained: “We want more local people and visitors to get out and explore their industrial past and to discover the treasures of the World Heritage Site for themselves.”
A professional artist has been employed to devise a series of cast iron treasure markers that will be located at key sites.
These markers will signify a place of importance, but used in conjunction with self-guide trail leaflets, will help people to read the landscape and better imagine what it used to be like in the industrial revolution.
An event is at the Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall at 6.30pm on February 11.
