Woman was paid almost £5k too much in benefit
5:10pm Saturday 9th February 2013 in News
A WOMAN was paid £4,800 too much in benefit she was not entitled to, a court heard.
Slavica Johnson, 50, of Coniston Close, Newport, pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to notify the DWP of a change in circumstances.
Cwmbran Magistrates Court heard Johnson was overpayed by £4862.90 in Income Support benefit, because her partner had paid employment through agencies.
Defending, Sophie Toms said her client had suffered ill health and wasn't thinking clearly.
She added Johnson explained herself to the DWP and had not spent the money.
Magistrates gave her an 18 month conditional discharge as they felt it was an "exceptional" case and ordered her to pay court costs of £50.
