IS THIS the youngest Royal British Legion member?

Morgan Jones, of Pontypool, celebrated his 12th birthday in a unique way by signing up to become a member of the Marshfield and district branch.

Morgan follows in the footsteps of his father Mike Jones who is also a member of the branch and is Gwent county poppy appeal co-ordinator.

Morgan, who had to wait until his 12th birthday on Thursday to sign up, said: "I want to help other people and their families who are in the forces."

Morgan has already taken part in local poppy runs in the past to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

Although he has been inspired by his dad to now join a branch, Mr Jones made sure Morgan was under no pressure to join the Royal British Legion.

He said: "We questioned him about it and he said he was doing it for himself. I am proud of him and looking forward to helping him."
