Statue of Blaenavon rugby legend, Ken Jones, gets seal of approval from family

FAMILY APPROVAL: Laury Dizengremel with her mock sculpture of Ken Jones FAMILY APPROVAL: Laury Dizengremel with her mock sculpture of Ken Jones

THE statue of Ken Jones has been given the thumbs up by his family.

Last week Ken Jones’ son Philip visited sculptor Laury Dizengremel at her studio to see the work in progress.

Mr Jones provided her with photographs to work from.

He said: “I’m very pleased as it looks like my father. I’m glad to finally see something being made as everyone has worked hard to fundraise. I have shown photos of it to my mother and she is also very pleased.”

Managing director of art consultancy service Art Acumen, Catherine Thomas, also visited Ms Dizengremel and suggested some changes, and the Ken Jones Committee could not be happier.

At the committee meeting last week members studied pictures of the work. Treasurer of the group, Lewis Freeman, said: “I saw him a few times in my late teens, the statue is superb.”
