Cwmbran teen sacrifices her locks for a good cause
9:00am Sunday 17th February 2013 in News
A TEENAGER shaved her head to raise funds for a Pontypool autistic unit which her brother goes to.
Ella Pearce, 14, of Manorbier Drive, Cwmbran, sacrificed her locks in aid of the autistic special needs resource base at Pontymoile Primary School, as well as charity Action for Children.
Ella’s brother Reuben, five, is autistic and attends the unit at the school. Her younger brother Coco, two, is also suspected to be autistic.
Ella had her head shaved during a fun day at Cwmbran’s Football Factory which added to her funds with activities including face painting and a bouncy castle.
One of Ella’s friends Joel Rogers also volunteered to have his head shaved at the event to keep the money rolling in.
So far, Ella has raised around £950 which will be split between the two causes.
Ella’smumEmmaSmith, who carried out the head shave, said: “It all went well and I am really proud of her. She loved it and I think she is contemplating keeping it like that.”
It was recently reported how Pontymoile Primary is set to close at the end of August with pupils, including pupils at the autistic unit, moving to Nant Celyn Primary, Cwmbran.
Ms Smith said the money raised by Ella will still be used by the unit when it moves to its new premises.
