A MAN was this afternoon seriously injured when the dumper truck he was driving crushed him.
Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene of the incident off Farm Road, Swffryd at 2.45pm today.
Initial reports suggest a man in his thirties was driving the truck while working on a development at the rear of Farm Road.
The incident occured when the man, who was working for a construction company, reversed his dumper truck while carrying a full load and slid down an embankment.
The truck fell approximately twenty feet, throwing the driver out and then landing on top of him.
Eyewitness reports say the man is believed to be in a critical condition, after suffering serious crush injuries.
Three traffic police vehicles blocked off the scene and Gwent Police cordoned off the area.
The injured man was rushed by police escort from the scene, in an ambulance, to hospital.
Sergeant Elliott, from the Gwent Police Traffic Unit, said: "We are working in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive in relation to an incident involving a mechanical dumper truck.
"As a result there has been an injury and one male has been taken to hospital."
A police investigation unit was called to the scene to discover the cause.
