TWO men have been charged after a pensioner had her bag stolen in daylight in Newport on Friday.
The 82-year-old had her handbag stolen in the Shaftesbury area at around 1pm.
Police officers were quickly at the scene with officers pursuing two men.
Around ten officers were involved in the chase along the riverbank footpath, including a police dog handler. The police helicopter was also deployed.
The men were eventually caught near Sheedy’s Demolition in Albany Street and taken into police custody.
Police said the pensioner was unhurt but a little shaken up, and officers recovered her bag.
A 22-year-old has been charged with robbery, and a 23-year-old has been charged with assisting an offender and both will appear in court at a later date.
