Dragons rugby fans were left in no doubt who ate all the pies at a charity competition this week.
Dragons players took on their rivals, Cardiff Blues, in four rounds of a meat pieeating contest to raise money for George Thomas Hospice Care, by stuffing down as many Clark’s pies as they could in ten minutes.
Given their recent performances, critics may argue that it wasn’t the best training exercise, but judging by the way Andy Tuilagi licked his plate clean it was obviously an enjoyable event at the Walkabout Bar, St Mary Street, Cardiff, on Monday night.
The Dragons’ star beef and gravy pie-eater was lock foward Ian Nimmo, 27, who ate five and a half pies, and number eight Tom Brown, 28, ate four and a half in ten minutes.
But the champ was a member of the public, Wayne Eley, who demolished six and a half in the time.
The fastest pie-eater, one in 30 seconds, was Olympic swimmer Ieuan Lloyd, from Cardiff.
Organiser Sian Gunney, managing director, of Peacock Media Group, said: “This cause is very close to my heart as the palliative team cared for my late father. I have never witnessed such professionalism, kindness, sensitivity and compassion and I am eternally grateful.”
Other famous faces on the night were Porsche racingcar driver Fraser O’Brien, and Welsh middleweight boxing champion Wayne Ellis, who joined in the Dragons’ team effort of wolfing
