Travellers near Newport Stadium promise to move before Half Marathon

TRAVELLERS who have set camp in a Newport council car park have indicated they intend to leave by tomorrow.

Four motorhomes were seen at the Newport Stadium car park yesterday afternoon.

Newport council said it was aware of the issue and said it was an unauthorised encampment.

Officers visited the site on Monday and the temporary residents have indicated they intent to leave by Friday, a spokeswoman said.

"Community Safety Wardens are doing regular patrols of the site and officers will continue to monitor the situation," she added.

Its not thought the camp will have any impact on the Newport Half Marathon, which starts at Newport Stadium on Sunday.

That;s jolly decent of the travellers to vacate their illegal camp at a time of their choosing.

Why are the authorities so passive in removing "unauthorised encampments"? A few bulldozers would send the right message

Why does the council not put barriers up to stop caravans getting on their car parks like other councils do.

Too simple! and it would stop unsavoury night visits.

There are barriers and heavy boulders at Newport Stadium. They were installed following the travellers previous visit.

Why cannot council officials take photos of the site as soon as they become aware of the occupation together with the vehicle reg. numbers? Then compare the site when they leave and the cost of any cleanup could be invoiced to the vehicle owners. Probably too simple

Just to see the extreme left wing internet Tough Guys and Pro Gipsy Councillors who always tell us "They just want to integrate but nobody gives them a chance" try to weasel there way out of that..

We do not need Nazi's in the council to
deal with Roma, but we do desperately
need councillors with Y-Fronts and a back bone .
