Animal cruelty claim is ‘vicious vendetta’ - Torfaen councillors (From South Wales Argus)

I don't know the details behind this issue but it seems like they're getting a dose of there own medicine. Don't like it up em some might say. The Labour party in Torfaen have been involved in many a "vicious vendetta’ against non Labour councillors particularly independants who had the audacity to stand against them and win in what they thought were non contest seats. Maybe now they will realise how damaging these "vendettas" are to all involved and will stick to trying to improve the lives of people they represent. Or pigs might fly. But we must live in hope.

Bilbo, if you as you claim, you don't know the details and have not seen the document, then you really cannot comment. I have seen the document, and let me tell you, it was horrendous and could only have come from the mind of a disturbed person. Political tit for tat is an inevitability but this document took it to a completely off the wall level. Some of Torfaen's independent councillors do a great job while others are using it, and using the Facebook group, as a platform to spread their dirty right-wing politics

I resent it when one of these councillors claims there is a vendetta when they have refused to answer questions about the real harassment on Facebook. These "keyboard warriors" should stand up and be counted without wasting taxpayers time and money on their political games. The document images were from Cllr Mike Harris's link which both councillors chose to ignore and instead had a dig at him instead of showing any sympathy for the animals being cooked alive. The Twitter feeds show the truth and this is nothing more than Labour spin.

I can comment on what I like. I don't need permission from a Labour party lackey thanks. "dirty right-wing politics". Sound like that's straight from the Labour book of "how not to debate with one liners". I’ve done a bit of digging and the way I see it is that they took the “can’t offend anyone” option rather than condemn terrible animal cruelty. That’s their choice. I disagree entirely .You won’t here me calling them names though. Just wish they’d have the conviction to tell the truth.

Which is the most sad, those who authored the document or those who believe it?

I believe Joe public would prefer not to hear any of this nonsense that both sides are spouting particularly as it wastes the councils time discussing it. Nice to see there wasn't anything more important going on in Torfaen. I certainly condone that shameful waste of time and tax payers money.

It's as people are not reading what has been published here - the story is bogus and Twitter proves it.

Someone produced something that someone else doesn't like. Not something that wasn't true - just something they don't like. Get over it.

I've been waiting since 2003 for Labour to explain who wrote the dodgy Iraq dossier that resulted in the deaths of 100 000 woman and children and the suicide of Dr David Kelly - I don't see many Labour Party members being "appalled" by that.

If this "document" isn't true why did these councillors post those Tweets?

James, have you seen the document? It was straight out the mind of a sociopath. Mike Harris posted the original link as a tenuous and emotive means of showing why multiculturalism can't work. Animal cruelty was not his primary concern and this was quite obvious to most people who saw it.

That post was on the 22nd Jan and on the 6th Feb one councillor was saying "residents had contacted hime about the term leftard". Does that sound truthful to you?

I simply do not believe there are people in Cwmbran more offended by a word than cooking animals alive.

Say what you like about Mike Harris - it's a free country but do not accuse him of not being concerned about animals and dogs in particular- his ACTIONS and help for animals in distress go beyond anything I have heard of.

The tweets show nothing of the sort. What they also fail to show is the history behind this debacle. That link and its initial post had very little to do with animal welfare and everything to do with making a cheap political shot. You seem to think people are daft enough not to be able to see straight through that. It's just the kind of arrogance displayed by the type of mind capable of creating the aformentioned document.

littleface. The original post is a link to an online petition about the terrible cruelty inflicted on animals by cooking them alive for restaurants in China. This petition has been signed by thousands of animal lovers around the world and in most people's opinion cooking animals alive has everything to do with animal welfare even if you personally seem to think it doesn't. Ask your children what they think.

Both Labour councillors tweeted about the post, including the picture of the petition link but neither of them mentioned these animals being tortured and just used their tweets as an excuse to smear Cllr Harris and make a cheap political shot.

There is no history here and you seem to think that people are daft enough not to be able to see through that. It's just the kind of arrogance displayed by the types of minds capable of creating the spin from this debacle in the way Labour slurred David Kelly and lied about Iraq.

If what you say is correct then why does one of the councillors state on Twitter he believes that by highlighting this awful practice it makes Cllr Harris "Worse than Nick Griffin" and neither even mention the petition?

The gentleman on here by the name of James has claimed to be very good friends with the person who posted this disgusting pdf on facebook. It has been suggested that this document was posted using a fake profile. Draw your own conclusions.

And there it is. Within twelve comments, Labour supporters, hiding behind fake names like the keyboard warriors they are, start to smear or attempt guilt by association of something they don't like despite it's veracity.

The facts speak for themselves stfrancis and I never liked the dodgy dossier that was used to kill woman and children in Iraq either yet no one seems concerned over that.

The councillor Mike Harris posted the online petition, signed by thousands of concerned animal lovers worldwide and the reaction was one of sympathy for the dogs being tortured and boiled alive by every one who posted online except these two and that is around 29500 people saying one thing and these two saying another. Quite big odds I think.

Instead of just signing the petition to stop the cruelty or ignoring the post, they chose to use Twitter to effectively state Mike Harris was worse than Nick Griffin. That was what the Tweet said.

That is hardly the type of response from an animal lover or someone moved or concerned by the photo they posted.

The other councillor who had already had some bogus complaint he had made to the ombudsman about Mike Harris being racist (using local taxpayers money of course not his) chose to complain about some silly word he didn't like and later stated residents in Cwmbran had asked it's meaning. I find it hard to believe people were more concerned over a name than "mans best friend" being tortured.

Again not one word of sympathy or shock at the torment of these dogs despite his degree in animal behaviour and to date it appears neither of these two have signed the online petition to stop this behaviour.

The facts speak for themselves and no amount of protest by these two will convince me otherwise. If they don't like something or think it's unfair they should just ignore it and not use it as a political tool.

I will make no further comment since it is clear the Labour Party smear machine is spinning like mad to try to bury the truth. It's a shame the people who elect and pay for these two councillors don't have them spending their time on things of benefit instead of playing on computers all day.

The post by Cllr Harris was typical of the extreme views he holds on immigration and multiculturalism . James Dexter, in supporting the outlandish claims made in the PDF, seems to forget that we, the public, are not as gullible as he likes to believe, the truth is plain to see, the document is a vile creation which is full of spite and hate.

Shamefully, Cllr Harris has not condemn the PDF, despite the leader of the Independent Group doing so. His silence on the issue speaks volumes.

The following is the post by Cllr Harris on Torfaen Matters that sparked the PDF;

"Multicultural Britain ... My backside! When will the leftards understand how different the indiginous (sic)citizens of Western Civilised Great Britain are to the rest of the world"?

Does this look like a post intended to highlight a horrible practice, or as most would see it, a cheap political points scoring exercise to highlight Cllr Harris vehement antithesis to multiculturalism? There is no evidence this practice occurs in the UK, so why the first sentence?

This is not about a petition, this is about a a vile document that is based on lies and smears, end of. The document was posted by one Pat Bowden, James Dexters name is cited on the PDF as the author, he denies this, stating that he has been set up. James Dexter is a friend of Pat Bowdens, he admitted on Torfaen Matters that he had just spent a week with him/her- there is some confusion about gender.

On the 27th of Feb this conversation took place on Torfaen Matters in a conversation about Pat Bowden.

Not arrogant at all when you know that no one on Torfaen Matters has defended the PDF apart from James Dexter and the fake profile "Pat Bowden". No one in their right mind would defend and/or support it.
