Somerton Primary pupils organise show for all the family

A GROUP of Year 5 and 6 pupils from Somerton Primary School in Newport organised a family show on Monday night, with the help of Gwent Police and the Arts Council of Wales.

The performance of Komedy of Errors, by award-winning circus comedy duo Circus Berzercus, was the culmination of behind-the-scenes work done by the pupils.

Pupils sold tickets, designed posters, sourced sponsorship, organised a raffle and were in charge of the event on the night.

Their front-of-house roles included putting out chairs, looking after VIP guests, selling refreshments, introducing the performers and welcoming the audience.

“The performance was very entertaining and the youngsters involved did a great job,” said Paul Harris, the deputy police and crime commissioner for Gwent.

“This is a great example of what can be achieved when the police and partners work together with young people.”
