Woman airlifted to hospital after falling from the Second Severn Crossing
A WOMAN driver was airlifted to hospital after falling into the water at the Second Severn Crossing this morning.
Lifeboat teams searched the woman for an hour after she fell off the bridge from the westbound carriageway at around 11.30am, Swansea coastguards said.
A coastguard spokesman said she was being resuscitated when she was taken to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
The Severn Area Rescue Association confirmed the woman was recovered at around 12.30pm.
It is not yet known how severe her injuries are.
A coastguard spokesman said a car had been seen to stop on the bridge shortly before the incident.
Police helicopters from Gwent Police and Avon and Somerset Police joined the search.

A friend took a decision to take his own life a few years ago. I have no idea what turmoil must be going on to consider life not worth living, but I really hope this lady gets the support she needs to make her want to give her life another go.

I fail to see how anyone could fall off the bridge into the river. Surely the word that should have been used is jumped!

Everyone is being pushed hard - life is tough full stop - nothing new there! The samaritans will tell you that there are a number of factors that push people to the edge.

I totally feel for anyone who feels that they have to end it and their families who have to pick up the pieces - and I'm speaking from experience.
