Andy Toovey and Joe O’Hare could win an industry prize for their film The Return
A FILM produced by a pair of Torfaen filmmakers and shot on location in Abersychan and Garndiffaith has been longlisted for a competition prize.
The sci-fi film, called The Return, is about isolation and ambition, and was produced by Andy Toovey, from Garndiffaith, and Joe O’Hare, from Cwmbran.
The three-minute film was created as an entry into the Reed short film competition and it has made into the top 50, out of more than 540 entrants.
The shortlist of the top 12 is due to be announced the end of this month.
Graphic designer turned film maker Mr Toovey, 28, wrote and directed the piece, along with Mr O’Hare, 29, who is currently on a film course.
The film was written, filmed and edited in a week as the pair recognised that the snow that fell on January 18, creating the ideal setting for the piece, could quickly disappear.
The film features mainly landscapes around Abersychan and Garndiffaith.
The overall winners will be announced at a BAFTA awards ceremony in May.
In the coming months, the pair are also planning to launch TorFilm, a network to link up people interested in being part of creating short films in Torfaen.
