IT WAS a case of ‘love is in the hair’ at a Coleg Gwent romance-inspired beauty show. Students brought their latest looks to the catwalk in the annual hair and beauty show which, this year, had the theme of ‘love’.

With hairspray, hearts, glitter and plenty of romance, 180 hair and beauty students at the college’s city of Newport campus styled models into categories including ‘Disney’, ‘Vintage Valentine’ and ‘Avant-garde’.

Students saw their hair and make-up designs star on a specially constructed runway in front of an audience of friends and family, as models strutted their stuff to tracks such as Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love. Hairdressing lecturer Hayley Bowditch said: “The event really gave students a chance to practice working under time pressure and to a given brief.

“The results were brilliantly professional looks, which they were proud to show friends, family and the local community.”
