A NEWPORT pub is celebrating after a successful opening.

The Three Horseshoes, of Pillmawr Road, Newport, Gwent, one of Malpas’ best-loved pubs, has reopened after undergoing a makeover.

The opening saw more than 100 customers attend.

“The launch night was extremely successful and we have been really busy ever since,” said landlady Gill Handley, who has returned after six years to run the pub again. I’ve been overwhelmed by the support and the feedback from the local residents.

“The regulars are really pleased and I have seen a lot of new faces who haven’t been in the pub for years, which is fantastic.”

The pub closed for five weeks while £130,000 was spent refurbishing it by leaseholders Stoneley Estates and owners Punch Taverns.

The pub now boasts a new menu featuring home-made food seven days a week.

“We are also offering a new Sunday lunch menu at £6.95 and with the addition of Dave’s Sunday quiz, we are seeing twice as many customers than before visiting on Sundays,” Gill added
