A MAN who threatened to kill his half brother during a drink-fuelled rant was banned from having any contact with him.

Jason Bennett, 22, drank 13 pints in an Abergavenny pub on February 1 before going to Ben Ford’s house to confront him over allegations he had spread rumours about him.

Mr Ford’s mother Nicola Ford answered the door and Bennett threatened to kill her, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

Her partner Mark Warren came downstairs and Bennett, who was carrying a lock knife, threatened to stab him.

Sue Ferrier, prosecuting, said he carried on calling for his half brother Ben Ford and continued to make threats to kill and to stab as the couple locked themselves inside and called police.

Bennett then returned to his Underhill Crescent home in Abergavenny a few hundred metres away.

He was later arrested and admitted he went to the house with a knife with intentions to stab Mr Ford.

Bennett pleaded guilty to affray and possession of an offensive weapon at an earlier magistrates court hearing.

Jeff Jones, defending, described the incident as a "drink-fuelled family row" and said although Bennett was carrying the knife, the blade was concealed at all times.

He said Bennett had had the "shock of his life" since being remanded in prison and had already served his punishment and learned his lesson.

The Recorder of Cardiff, Judge Eleri Rees, said the courts took a serious view of those who carry knives and those who take them into dangerous situations, but said there were mitigating features to reduce the sentence.

Bennett was jailed for six months, which led to his immediate release as he has already served half his sentence on remand.

He was also made the subject of a restraining order banning him from having any contact with Ben Ford or from going near his house.
