RUGBY players got together to raise money for a young cancer victim, who donated the cash to a Gwent-based hospice.
Daniel Cook, 24, is suffering a rare form of bone cancer which doctors have told him is incurable. They have given him a prognosis of one year.
He lives in Cwmfelinfach with his wife, Sarah, but is originally from Blaina, and local people say they have been touched by his plight.
Daniel is a talented singer-songwriter and is working to get his music recorded in his home studio before he gets too ill.
He told the Argus he wants people to hear his songs, as well as leaving a legacy for Sarah and his parents Robert and Denise to remember him by.
Members of Blaina Rugby and Football Club got together recently to raise money for the family with a charity rugby match.
The team played the Welsh Charitables RFC on November 3 and beat them 48-28. In the evening the teams were joined by ex-Wales coaches Mike Ruddock and David Nash.
RFC Chairman and family friend Tony Adams said: "We raised £710 on the day and were going to give it to the family to help with Daniel's treatment.
"But he requested that it went to Hospice of the Valleys and Cancer Research UK.
The Welsh Charitables RFC also presented Daniel with a rugby jersey with his name on it, and the number nine on the back because he used to play scrum half when he was at school.
