HUNDREDS of screaming theatregoers were transported to 1980s America as the Blue Brothers came to town this week.

Fresh from a sell-out tour of America, popular double-act Jake (Brad Henshaw) and Elwood (Chris Chandler) had a crowd of all ages clapping and singing along from beginning to end.

Decked out in the trademark suits, hats and sunglasses made famous by the act’s creators Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, Chandler and Henshaw crooned and belted out classic tunes from the likes of Elvis, The Drifters and The Beatles.

Peppered with hits including Stand by Your Man, Shake a Tail Feather, Respect and Jailhouse Rock, the show was destined to be a hit from the start.

But topped up with energetic dance routines, witty audience participation and backed by the powerhouse vocals of the Bluettes; Jenessa Qua, Alexus Ruth and Jenny Fitzpatrick, the pair had the crowd on their feet and demanding more by the end.

Their response? A rousing performance of the Blue Brothers’ classic Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.
