FIRE fighters extinguished a mountain blaze near Upper Cwmbran this afternoon as a spate of grass fires take hold across South Wales in the hot weather.
A crew from Cwmbran fire station took 50 minutes to put out the fire above the reservoir in Upper Cwmbran this afternoon, while their colleagues from Rhondda Cynon Taf tackled a 110-hectare grass fire on the Rhigos mountain; Maesteg fire fighters helped crews from Mid and West Wales to deal with a grass fire in Glyncorrwg; and Cardiff Central fire fighters tackled a grass fire in St Mellons.
Meanwhile, at 12.45pm fire crews from Maindee and Malpas extinguished a building fire in Pill, Newport, in 10 minutes using one hose reel, and attended a road traffic collision in Lower Mill involving a large goods vehicle and a car where no one was injured, at around 1.15pm.
