ON the hottest day of the year and just hours after Britain’s triumph in the Wimbledon final, it was a perfect occasion to gather in the middle of Delamere Forest and celebrate to the sound of The Charlatans.

With several Union Jack flags about, frontman Tim Burgess gave his own salute to the special day at Wimbledon with his trademark ‘all in white’ get up.

The band emerged to a picturesque scene as the sun set behind the trees that surrounded the surprisingly small opening in the forest.

Burgess soaked up the atmosphere while dancing around the stage to the long musical intro of ‘Forever’, which kicked off the night.

After the sun had set, the excitement grew in the crowd and Burgess and the band announced the new found atmosphere with a string of hits, starting with the popular 90s song ‘The Only One I Know’.

Although it may not have been the only one that the crowd knew, it certainly proved to be a favourite among fans.

More than 5,000 had gathered in the forest with each word sung back loudly at the stage.

The lively indie classic ‘One to Another’, which had brought the forest alive seemed like a perfect way to end the night.

But there was more as Tim came back to the stage for the encore dedicating their last song ‘Sproston Green’ to the band’s drummer of the last 24 years, Jon Brookes.
