OVER the summer months Cwmcarn Forest Drive has been a hive of activity putting on a variety of activities to keep families busy.
The Hedgehog Rescue Centre visited Cwmcarn for a Hedgehog Meet and Greet, and 360 people turned up to meet the prickly creatures. Children were able to interact with hedgehogs and learn about their lives through games and activities. They also learned what kind of issues hedgehogs face and how to protect them, particularly from the dangers of human activity.
Cwmcarn’s Mini and Junior Rangers have also been busy, spending a day exploring a very important part of our ecosystem – wildflower meadows. 23 Rangers had an enjoyable day learning about the creatures that live in wildflower meadows and depend on them for food and shelter, and why it is important to protect them in order to maintain the balance of our entire ecosystem. The Rangers also had the chance to get hands on and make window box meadows and sunflower bird feeders so that they could help to look after the mini ecosystems of their gardens.
Winged beasties were the focus of the at Cwmcarn recently, when 21 visitors took part in the National Moth Count. They were invited to learn about the lives of moths and helped staff to identify the different species that were caught the previous night.
Cwmcarn has plenty more in store for the rest of the summer, so keep an eye out for upcoming events. For information about what’s on and to book events contact Cwmcarn Forest Drive on 01495 272001, or visit www.cwmcarnforest.co.uk.
