A NEWPORT pupil has just been informed that he achieved the highest A-level Physics results in the whole of Wales, despite taking the exam a year early.
Konrad Edwards, 17, from Marshfield sat his full A Level Physics a year early, but on Wednesday the WJEC examining board informed Rougemont School of the exceptional results.
Konrad was the best performing candidate in Wales for WJEC A-Level Physics. He achieved an A* with an overall mark of 98.8 per cent.
He sat the first part of the AS Level Physics aged 16 during Year 11 and achieved an A, the highest grade achievable in AS Levels.
His achievement has earned him the Institute of Physics Goronwy Jones prize, an annual £300 cash prize for the highest scoring physics candidate.
Mrs Jane Goodwin, Head of Physics at Rougemont, said: “We are so very proud of Konrad's impressive achievement in A-level Physics. This is an especially remarkable feat as Konrad is younger than his peers and sat both AS and A2 levels a year early. “
The majority of Konrad's lessons took place in a tutorial style, averaging two hours of lecture time per week.
Konrad is now studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths at Rougemont and plans to study a second level physics course with the Open university alongsidethe A-levels.
He hopes to study Natural Sciences at University with Physics as a specialism.
