A THIRD man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the shooting in Somerton this week.
Armed police were sent to Elaine Crescent in Newport this afternoon after officers investigating Tuesday's incident on Chepstow Road, executed a warrant.
A 24-year-old man from Newport man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently assisting officers with their enquiries.
The 22 year old man from Newport who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Friday morning remains in custody after magistrates granted a warrant of further detention yesterday evening.
A third man, aged 24, who was previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Two men from Cardiff, aged 22 and 24, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs have previously been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Officers are continuing to make enquiries to locate the firearm used in the incident, as well as a dark coloured 4x4 jeep type vehicle that was seen driving along Chepstow Road and onto Beechwood Road in the direction of St Julians and Christchurch.

ARMED police were sent to Elaine Crescent, Newport, as part of the ongoing investigation following the shooting in Somerton this week.
A Gwent police spokeswoman said no arrests had been made in Elaine Crescent but a warrant had been executed and a property was being searched.
He said this was part of the ongoing investigation following the incident in Chepstow Road on Tuesday.
A police helicopter was also in the area.
One eyewitness said four armed police officers were seen facing a property on Elaine Crescent while the road was blocked off.
Another said Elaine Crescent had been closed at the top and bottom and that police had told residents to stay inside and blocked the road with vehicles.
