TWO YEARS after wowing judges in Britain’s Got talent, Ebbw Vale artist Nathan Wyburn is on another television talent show – in Austria.
The artist achieved national fame with his portrait of Rupert Murdoch, made using 5,000 images of alleged phone-hacking victims. Since then he has appeared on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent and BBC’s Blue Peter.
Now Mr Wyburn has got through to the semi-finals of Austrian talent show Die Grosse Chance – with his first audition broadcast to the country on Friday night.
He said: “It’s quite an extreme talent show, it’s quite daring, I’m really enjoying being there. Vienna is a beautiful city.
“I saw a sign advertising this talent show was having auditions and I thought why not? So i applied but I was amazed they took me on, as I don’t speak German! But they took a risk on me and I made it through to the semi-finals.”
But along with his appearenced on Austrian national television, Mr Wyburn has been busy back at home too.
He said: “I was recently challenged bu music website Popjustice to create a of pop star Lady Gaga using fancy dress make up ahead of her new single Applause, and one of Katy Perry using cat food ahead of her new single Roar. Both of these videos had thousands of YouTube hits within a few days.
“Then, during Cardiff Mardi Gras I was lucky enough to present Rylan Clark with a portrait which he had asked me to make using various Big brother eye logos.”
He also presented songstress Beverley Knight a picture of her painted into a 10 foot pride rainbow flag, and Buffy the Vampire star Anthony Head a portrait of himself created with novelty fake blood.
He added: “So on top of preparing for the semi final round of this huge tv show in Vienna, I’ve been very busy and am also takinng custom portrait offers ahead of the Christmas rush!
“It’s been a busy few weeks but I’m really enjoying it.”
