A NEWPORT counselling service is celebrating 20 years of service in the Gwent community.
Beresford Pregnancy Counselling centre, which was set up on Beresford Road, Newport, in 1993, is a registered charity which counsels and supports women in South Wales with pregnancy related issues.
Since 1993 the centre has helped several thousands of women and their partners face issues such as termination and unexpected pregnancy.
Much of this work is free face to face counselling by trained volunteers, as well as a telephone help-line if clients are unable to come to the centre.
The centre also works with schools offering input on unexpected pregnancy, sex and relationships.
The organisation is celebrated 20 years with a lunch event at the Beresford Pregnancy Centre, Gaer Park Drive, Newport, on September 19.
The celebratory lunch saw the centres supporters, Cllr Cliff Suller, the Mayor of Newport, along with Councillor Granville Hale, the Mayor of Blackwood attend.
There event featured tea and coffee along with a buffet lunch, and speeches, followed by a tour of the premises.
Margaret Travis, Regional Co-ordinator for Beresford Pregnancy Counselling Centre said: “The Beresford Pregnancy Counselling Centre on Gear Park Drive, Newport, has celebrated 20 years of service by holding this celebratory lunch for people who have supported and referred clients to our centre.
“The centre has been running since 1993 to help women with pregnancy related issues.
“Now in its 20th year, the centre is continuing to flourish and prosper, with trained volunteers helping a great number of women who need long term counselling and women who need to make urgent decisions regarding issues such as termination.”
