Some trees to be felled in Newport's Tredegar Park

SOME trees in Newport's Tredegar Park are being removed for health and safety reasons.
A number of trees near the children’s play area in the park were cut down on experts' advice because of problems with falling leaves and droppings from birds in the trees.
The park was recently redesigned as part of flood prevention work and replacement trees will be planted elsewhere on the grounds.
A spokeswoman for Newport City Council said, "Although the trees are mature specimens, they do not have particular horticultural merit and some are reaching the end of their life expectancy."
