FANCY owning a one-of-a-kind piece or artwork that hung from the Market Hall at the 2012 Abergavenny Food Festival?
The organisers of the annual event, which attracts 35,000 to the town over two days each year, are auctioning off the giant animal decorations and believe this is a unique opportunity for owners of restaurants, theatres, festivals and art collectors to acquire a specially-commissioned sculpture.
The hares have already sold but there is still a pheasant, turkey, mandarin duck and a French partridge up for grabs with no reserve price. However, the specially-commissioned artwork cost £500 to make and could fetch double this amount.
The sculptures were made by volunteers under the watchful eye of artist Bettina Reeves at Arts Alive in Crickhowell, and hung from the rafters for a year until they were replaced with new creations for this year’s festival.
Among the sculptures on offer is a Turkey that measures two-and-a-half metres high and one-and-a-half metres in length and weighs no more than 50kg.
The description from the organiser suggests potential buyers could use them as a decoration for a restaurant, as a prop in a theatre, for other festivals or for any home or office with high ceilings and may also be of interest to art collectors.
Bettina Reeves, is a senior lecturer in theatre design at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
All proceeds from the sale go towards next year’s decorations and other arts provisions
Bids can be placed on the site until October 16.
