The recent investment by EADS in Newport demonstrates the city’s role as a centre of excellence for the aerospace industry. Through its new venture Testia, the company hopes to recruit school leavers who will be trained as aerospace engineers. £1.4 million has already been invested in the new venture, and it hopes to be training 1,400 students a year over six years. Apprenticeships will also be available for school leavers, comprising of both on-site and on-the-job training.
EADS is one of the city’s biggest employers, and this investment strengthens Newport’s place as one of the leading locations for the aerospace industry. This encouraging news will help to train the next generation of highly-skilled aerospace individuals, and with support from the Welsh Government, it is expected to provide 60 new jobs at Newport after five years. A new grant scheme has been launched to help individuals, businesses, third sector organisations and communities in Wales access faster broadband. Access Broadband Cymru will provide grants of up to £1,000 per premises in areas which have slow broadband connections. The scheme which opened on 1st October will complement the Superfast Cymru programme by providing support in areas either not covered by the programme or where no date has been published for the roll-out of superfast broadband. For more information and to see whether premises are eligible for funding under the Access Broadband Cymru scheme visit www.wales.co.uk/broadband. The scheme will close on 31st March 2016.
