ARGUS COMMENT: Inspiration to all of us

SOMETIMES there are days when we feel humbled by the actions of local people.
And today is one of those days.
The fund-raising efforts of Newport man Stuart Nixon are awe-inspiring.
Not just because of the amount of money he aims to raise for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, although for many that would be challenge enough.
But for the way he has gone about it. His determination and commitment means Mr Nixon is an example to us all.
The father has lived with the debilitating effect s of MS for 30 years. For the past 15, he has had to rely on a wheelchair as he is unable to walk unaided for any length of time.
But despite all that he took it upon himself to help the MS Society by raising £60,000 in a 60km walk in the space of nine days.
And, as we are reporting today, he has done it. He says himself the challenge was full of highs and immense lows.
And we can only imagine how physically demanding this has been for him.
But selflessly he has praised the support he received along the way from family, friends and complete strangers.
The fundraising still has a fair way to go to reach its target.
But we can’t help feeling quietly confident that Stuart Nixon will definitely get there. He is certainly not one for giving up.
