Newport staff shortlisted for UK Bus Awards

THREE Newport Transport employees have been shortlisted for the first time in this year’s UK Bus Awards.
Harmesh Chand, Gieni Dudek and Morgan Stevens were all nominated by the company for the UK Bus Awards which will be held in London in November.
Harmesh Chand has been shortlisted for the Top National Driver award for his outstanding customer service received by passengers on his 405 bus.
Mr Chand, 40, from Ringland, who has driven a Newport bus for more than ten years received high commendation’s from customers.
A Mrs Reed, a regular customer of Mr Chand, wrote in to say : “Harmesh has always been very helpful and welcoming on the bus, assisting elderly passengers with their shopping trolleys. It’s nice to see such a pleasant driver who enjoys his job.”
Harmesh Chand said: “I’m very surprised. It’s very exciting to be among the final seven drivers shortlisted for the Top National Bus Driver Awards. I really enjoy working with and for the people of Newport. The best part about my job is meeting all the different characters on my bus and helping them get to their destination. I’m looking forward to finding out the final results on November 19th.”
Gieni Dudek, 62, from Gaer, who has worked for the company for the last 44 years, has been nominated in the Unsung Hero category. The award will be given to someone who demonstrates the importance of ensuring services are delivered for passengers and for the local community.
Mr Dudek works in the cash office but has previously held every position in the operations department before his retirement. Morgan Stevens, 28 from Cwmbran, Operations Manager, has been nominated for the Young manager of the Year Award and has worked for Newport Transport for around four years.
