A DEFENDANT vaulted over the open dock and escaped Newport Crown Court today when he learned he was to be remanded in custody until his trial.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named, was chased out of the courtroom by guards and a police officer.
He was caught outside the building by a female police officer and a family member who persuaded him to come back to court where he was told he would also be charged with escape.
He had appeared in court that morning on a joint charge of robbery.
