Services to visit Newport bus station until next Monday

A NEW travel centre opened at Newport Market yesterday ahead of changes to bus services in the city.
Newport bus services are expected to operate to and from the new Market Square bus station from next Monday [October 28] with stands on Queensway, Kingsway and the High Street.
Departure times are not expected to change in the immediate future, though Newport Bus said that it planned to publish updated timetables later in the year.
The old bus station is to shut on October 28 when works to redevelop the city centre begin.
All customers who want to buy cards, card top-ups or National Express tickets will need to visit the new Travel Centre. The old bus station's Travel Centre will shut at midday on Thursday.
It is hoped that the centre’s move into the market will increase footfall by 1,000 people a week and help reduce the number of empty shops in the city centre.
The work will shut 17 of the city centre’s disabled parking spaces, but 139 will remain open.
Newport Bus’ Managing Director Scott Pearson said: “I understand that the move of the bus station could be disruptive to your travel routines and we are working very hard to make the changeover as easy as possible for all our customers.”
Some of Newport Bus’ services will still use the old bus station in the city centre until next Monday.
It had been planned that all bus services would be moved from the station to other stands on Kingsway, Queensway and High Street but that is no longer the case.
Stands 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 will still be used as stops for 23 of Newport Bus’ routes.
Newport Bus staff will be based at the Market Square Bus Station, High Street and Queensway stops to help people with any problems. All staff will be wearing high-visibility coats, with Newport Bus Customer Service written on the back.
Any other changes will be listed on Newport Bus’ social media, on Twitter @NewportBus, on Facebook at facebook.com/NewportBus or on www.newport.gov.uk/redevelopment. There will also be a weekly full page information page in this newspaper from today. Newport Bus can also be phoned on 01633 263600.
