GREASE LIGHTNING: Caerleon Comprehensive are hoping for a sell out show for their rendition of the musical Grease photo by Jo Haycock Photography.
Greased lightning is coming to Newport as Caerleon Comprehensive puts on a production of the musical Grease.
The pupils from year 8 to sixth form will perform four nights this week to hits including 'Summer Nights' and 'You're The One That I Want.' The pupils will be performing the original Broadway production, which will see both Rachel Cozens, year 10, and Emily Poole, year 13, as Sandy and year 12 pupil, Mark Jones as Danny Zuko.
The pupils have transformed their hall into a stage for the performance with the school orchestra providing the music. Teams of students and staff have been working behind the scenes on lighting, sound, costumes, make-up and staging for the show which has almost sold out of tickets.
Director of music and drama Ms Jemma Paull and musical director Mrs Cheryl Jones have been in charge of producing the show which they hope will be as successful as their 2009 production of Oliver.
A school spokeswoman said: "The children are so excited for the show. There were a few nerves during the dress rehearsal but they are really looking forward to the first performance.
"It really has been a whole school effort to bring the show together. Pupils who aren't performing are behind the scenes with lighting or set design."
She added: "The show would not have been possible without some very generous donations of both materials and sponsorship from local businesses as well as our own students undertaking fundraising activities in school."
The show will run from October 21 - 24 at 7pm. Tickets are £6 from Caerleon Comprehensive 01633 420106.
