AN OLYMPIC gold medallist has invested in a small fitness gym in Abercarn.
Darren Campbell MBE, who won gold in the 4x100m relay in Athens in 2004 and individual silver in the 200m at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, will open the expanded CrossFit and multi-function conditioning centre at Abercarn industrial estate on Saturday, October 26.
Manchester-born Mr Campbell, who is also a Sky Sports presenter, is opening WRCC Ltd’s new venture alongside his business partners Matt Hughes and Lisa-Marie Row.
Local businesswoman Lisa Evans, will also operate her own beauty salon, Vanity Nails and Beauty, within the centre, with the two businesses aiming to compliment one and other adopting the “under-one-roof approach to health and beauty”.
Two years after opening a small gym in Cwmcarn, WRCC Ltd is expanding its premises and diversifying its services to offer CrossFit, a training style which is taking the world by storm.
The new facility located in Unit 22 of the industrial estate has undergone a dramatic makeover, with the venue now boasting a CrossFit area, a multi-function studio, rehabilitation centre, and a coffee bar.
The centre will run a range of classes offering sessions including Crossfit, Fitness Classes, Pilates for Rehabilitation, Personal Training, Functional Rehabilitation services and more.
It will also run a weekly boot camp in the forest, suitable for all levels of fitness, in the heart of Cwmcarn Forest Drive, called SAS Outdoor Training.
Mr Campbell, 40, said: “I have always been passionate about all things sport, I know better than most that to succeed in sport of any discipline fitness and a healthy lifestyle are both fundamental.
“In order to achieve that, a top quality training facility is essential and that is essentially what we have to offer with WRCC Ltd.”
He added: “Working with my business partners Lisa and Matt, who really are the driving force behind the expansion, has enabled me to be a part of building a community facility where people can achieve inspiring goals, dramatic transformations or take their first step on the journey to healthier lifestyle.”
