Griffithstown man, 37, died after being pulled from river in Llanyravon, Cwmbran

A GRIFFITHSTOWN man has died after falling in a river in Llanyravon, Cwmbran.
Police officers pulled the 37-year-old – who has not been named – from water behind a nearby social club shortly after 1pm, and paramedics administered CPR at the scene, with help from fire crews.
But the man was pronounced dead at Royal Gwent Hospital.
There are said to be no suspicious circumstances.
A police spokesman said: “We were called today (Friday October 25) at approximately 1pm to a report of a man in the river at Llanyravon, Cwmbran.
“Police, Fire and ambulance attended. The man was retrieved and first aid was administered at the scene. He was then taken to Royal Gwent Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”
Fire units from Cwmbran and Malpas attended the scene.
