ANIMAL charity PETA is offering a reward of £1,000 for information on the beheaded cygnet found in Marshfield on Sunday.

The money will be given to anyone who provides details which lead to an arrest and conviction.

The cygnet was found floating in the Drenewydd Reen between Pentwyn Terrace and Broadway at around 3pm.

PETA spokesman, Ben Williamson, said: “It is imperative that any community faced with the abuse of animals take measures to find the culprit or culprits and stop the violence.

“Animal abusers are a danger to everyone – they take their issues out on whomever is available to them, human or non-human.”

Swan Rescue South Wales collected the bird at 6pm on Sunday evening. And Peter Martin from the charity told the Argus yesterday that the cygnet’s head had been severed at the base and the cut was too clean to have been done by another animal.

Most birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Queen has a prerogative over all swans in England and Wales.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Gwent Police on 101 and quote incident number 329 1/12/13.
