TWO schoolgirls were approached by a man in a Monmouthshire school playground on Monday.

The man, described by the girls as wearing a hat and a scarf pulled over his face so only his eyes were showing, attempted to talk to them at Llantilio Pertholey Church in Wales Primary School at the end of the day.

The girls ran to their parents, who were at the school, and the police were informed, arriving soon after.

The school has since spoken to all its pupils to reassure them and discuss ‘stranger danger’.

Monmouthshire County Council is supporting them in this and has assigned a senior officer to assist them.

A council spokesman said: “Gwent police have maintained a highly visible presence at the school since the incident took place.

“We would like to commend the pupils for their quick thinking in avoiding this man and going straight to their parents.”
