A GROUP of Newport women have held a variety show to raise around £1,000 for the domestic violence unit of Gwent Police.
The event at the Lysaght Institute, Newport, on Wednesday featured such acts as a disco dancing troupe, belly dancers, and a Lady Gaga tribute in aid of children of women affected by domestic violence.
Sharon Brittan, 54, of Newport, who works in Gwent Police’s domestic violence unit, said: “At short notice we put together this variety show and it is really endearing how many acts came forward to raise money.
“We have been raising money all year by selling raffle tickets and there are some fantastic prizes including an MOT for a car, as well as lots of donated selection boxes for the children.”
“I foster children who have been affected by domestic violence and people don’t know what happens with them.”
