THIS was the scene at the workshops near Newport'sTredegar House today following a fire which devastated the buildings.

The workshops were gutted following the fire which crews were called to at around 9pm last night.

Fire officers have been at the workshops today investigating the cause of the fire.

General manager Jo Cartwright said the workshops affected included one which belonged to 'Busy Bees', a patchwork and quilting shop.

Another was a candle and mug shop while a third was used as a summer catering unit and so was empty at the time of the fire.

No-one was in the buildings at the time of the fire and no-one was injured.

The fire did not affect the main building or the grounds and Tredegar House, which is run by the National Trust, remained open for business today.
