Funny snaps shame Monmouthshire dog owners who hang poo bags in trees

MONMOUTHSHIRE County Council is sharing funny pictures of dogs on social media to raise awareness of the growing problem of dog owners not cleaning their pets’ mess.

The council has seen an increase in instances of owners not clearing up after their dogs and tying the mess in bags and hanging them on trees.

Councillor Phil Hobson, deputy leader of the council and lead member for sustainability, said: “It’s Christmas but this is no way to decorate a tree.

“Dumping dog waste is antisocial and the particular nature of what is being left lying about is particularly toxic.

“The posters we’re sharing online should make people think about their actions – nobody wants to step in poo and we want to get people to talk about this and condemn those who leave poos in inappropriate places. We want to change behaviour and this campaign will hopefully make people see that everybody wants dog owners to scoop the poop up.”

One of the images shows a sad looking Jack Russell with the caption ‘You just leave there for people to step in? #shame.’ Council officers urge owners to dispose of dog mess correctly by bagging it and binning it in dog waste bins, litter bins or household grey bags.

This has been a regular happening in Caldicot, Magor and Undy for a few years. What's the sense in bothering to pick the mess up in a bag, then leave it on the ground or hang it in a tree? Most places where people go to exercise their dogs in these areas do have a facitity to dispose of it but are too lazy to take that extra walk to the bin provided, though I except that in some of the larger area's ie Caldicot Castle, an extra bin or two would be helpful!. Makes you wonder why people bother to take their dogs out for exercise at all!

You would have to question the sanity of people who are perfectly happy to pick their pets faeces up and then deem it necessary to hang it from a tree.

We dream of owners picking up their dog mess here at Undy AFC you would think dog owners would notice the white pitch lines let alone the goal posts or the dozens of kids playing football but no they just let their dogs mess everywhere and leave it where it lies.

To answer Oddjob, many people simply take their dogs out to c**p all over the place, so they do not have to clean it up at home, nothing to do with exercise. Shameful and disgusting, I see it all the time, and most times they are middle aged and elderly people, so much for them being "brought" up differently.
It will reach the stage where the Dogs DNA is taken by the vets, and put on a register, and when dogs faeces is found, dna sampling done and owners traced and handed heavy fines and costs. And failure to comply should result in them being banned from owning pets.
Too many Parks, Sports Fields and Scenic Walkways are ruined by it, let alone the streets and childrens play areas.

While I dont condone people who do this, lets see more bins around and then see if it happens. I walk a fair way with a bag of dog muck in my pocket, before I find a bin. We collect the dog waste instead of leavimg it on the
Ground at least
