Torfaen to act on Welsh report

FOLLOWING an investigation into Torfaen Council’s Welsh Language Scheme which found it failed to comply with clauses, councillors agreed to implement the recommendations of the Welsh Language Commissioner at a meeting recently, to ensure there’s no repeat.

A statutory investigation report was published in November into the implementation of the council’s Welsh Language Scheme.

The probe was conducted following the launch of the council’s new telephone service in English only.

Implementing the powers of Section 17 of the Welsh Language Act 1993, the Welsh Language Commissioner decided to hold a statutory investigation into the matter, after three public complaints.

The investigation concluded that the council failed to comply with clauses in its Welsh Language Scheme by launching the service in English before the Welsh service was ready.

I always believed that power traveled upwards from the PEOPLE., not down from the self opinionated pseudo political elite.

I always believed that the MAJORITYy set the agenda, not some piddling little minority with an agendas to force their ridiculous notions on the MAJORITY.

Torfaen should tell the Bay of Pigs where to go and where to shove this crazed language stuff.

scraptheWAG, this has nothing to do with people being unemployed or disabled, it is just wrong. Regardless of which three people made the "complaints" the whole situation is beyond farce. The council's "crime" is launching a helpline when it was ready, rather than waiting for a minority-language version that no-one will use. Why people see fit to deny services to the majority to appease their tiny number is beyond me.

Quite right. Wales has the administration it deserves and yet still seeks to blame all it's ills on 'big bad whoever' for the fact that everything here is going down the tubes. This should be a lesson to all those deluded 'independence' loons who think there is the capability or the money to run Wales free from Westminster.

Another thought on this....

If a massive three complaints were laid about TBCB not doing whatever right, I wonder, if say thirty complain, or more properly, applaud the Council for taking the right path, will the Commissioner who heads up an overindulgent quango anyway, will BACK the HELL OFF?

Some how I doubt it, his job would be eradicated soon enough is that sort of level of complaint were to be replicated across Wales.

As for the Welsh language act...may as well enact a new Jesus act so the dead can be raised.
