YOUNG film-makers from Abergavenny scooped a national award for their camera skills.

Eleven GCSE students, who attend King Henry VIII Comprehensive, won the Best Camera Work award for their film ‘Y Fenni’ which was made during drama classes to raise awareness of the loss of the former Abergavenny Livestock Market Media4schools awards, held at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff this month.

The annual award, now in its tenth year annual recognised the winners of the competition, which attracted more than 300 entries from across the country.

It aims to highlight the hard work and commitment shown by schools and colleges across Wales who are involved with film-making, with an opportunity for winners to showcase their talents on the big screen at the event.

Thirteen awards were handed out in primary and secondary school categories covering editing, camera work, sports, presenting, animation community and sports. Sponsors included S4C, Wales Millennium Centre and Sony UK Technology Centre.

The panel of judges was made up of representatives from across the sector, including S4C, Sony, Film Agency Wales, WRU, Wales Millennium Centre, Ffenest media and Boom Pictures.

Michael Roberts, director of Ffenest media and organiser of the event, praised all the entrants for making this year’s awards the best yet.

He said: “Once again we have received a fantastic number of entries of an extremely high standard, which of course made the judging very difficult. I would like to congratulate all of our finalists for their magnificent achievements.”
