THE Alzheimer’s Society in Gwent has been given a financial boost of £950.

The award, made by Monmouthshire community chest panel, will help the organisation to support people with dementia by providing a range of services for those affected, and their carers.

The support includes ‘Singing for the Brain’, Dementia Cafes, Carers Support Groups, activity group and advice and befriending.

Sian Musto, service manager for the society, said the cash will be used to introduce an ‘Extend’ activity group for people with dementia and their carers.

‘Extend’ is a form of gentle exercise for older people and for anyone of any age with a disability.

The activity will offer a way of improving health but also help to create and establish friendships with others in a similar situation.

The group will meet weekly at Crawley Hall, Croes Bychan, near Raglan, at 11am from February 5.
