HUNDREDS of donated items have been dropped off to Blaenau Gwent Food Bank to help those less fortunate this Christmas.

Blaenau Gwent AM Alun Davies opened the doors of his Beaufort Street, Brynmawr office to the public so they could leave donations for the charity.

The food bank, based at Festival Church, has fed over 2,400 people in crisis since its launch in October 2008.

It has become a lifeline to many families, thanks to the 14 tonnes of food has been donated by schools, churches and collections outside supermarkets.

Although based in Ebbw Vale, the food bank gives out donations at locations around Blaenau Gwent to ensure they reach all areas of the borough.

“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people in Blaenau Gwent,” said Mr Davies.

“The food bank provides a vital service, especially at this time of year and it’s great to see so many people supporting it, especially in this tough economic climate.”
