THE Bishop of Monmouth, Rt Revd Richard Pain, has announced two appointments at Newport Cathedral.

Revd Ray Hayter, Minor Canon, is to become Canon Pastor and the Archdeacon of Newport, Ven Jonathan WIlliams, is to become the Precentor of the Cathedral.

Rt Revd Pain said: “Ray has an important role in in the pastoral life of the cathedral and is well loved and respected. As Canon Pastor, Ray will work with Dean Lister to build up the Christian community around the cathedral and to promote good relationships within the community and the wider Diocesan family."

He added: “Precentor literally means ‘first cantor’ and Jonathan is an experienced and enthusiastic singer so the title fits. Archdeacon Jonathan has a passion for liturgy and will be an asset to the worship of the cathedral."

The service to install and license the Canon Pastor and to license the Precentor will take place during evensong at the Cathedral on January 26 at 6.30pm.
